Can I become a Music Conductor?

Okay, I am a flautist and piccolo player in high school. I'm a Sophomore. I started playing again last year, but have been promoted to first chair within that time because of my nice intonation, and determination for learning. I have played music in class up to a grade 4, and I am also almost finished with AP Music Theory. I have also taken Marching Band, Concert Band, Chorus, and learned a bit of conducting on my own. I'm really scared to become a conductor because of the economy right now, and I don't know if I am good enough to even make it into music school. HELP!
