Should I rent a piccolo?

So I'm a flute player in the top band at my school. I play piccolo and the picc player spot will probably be pretty competitive next year. I can't take home the nice school picc over the summer, but I want to stay in practice. Is it worth the 100 bucks or so to rent one for the summer to stay in practice on a crappy metal one? It won't be the same as the nice one I get to play on now but it will be something right?
