What was your first encounter with anime?

My first encounter occurred when I was about 7 years old. Three other boys and I were looking at a Dragon Ball Z poster. I didn't know it was DBZ at the time. The two older, taller ones chose to "be" Vegeta and Goku. The third one, who was about my age and height got to be Trunks. The three of them were Super Saiyans on the movie poster. I got last pick because I was shortest: I had the choice between the dragon, the green guy (now known as Piccolo) and Gohan, who wasn't Super Saiyan in the poster. I asked if I can be the dragon and they said sure. None of us knew that Gohan will end up being stronger than all of them.
