Should I play the piccolo?
I am a high school senior. I was in band at a public school 6th through 9th grade and I played the flute. I was pretty good and was always first chair in my grade. Then, I was transferred to a private school without a band. So, I kinda let the talent go. Now, I am becoming very interested in music again. I am starting to practing my flute 4-6 hours a day. I remember all the notes and most of the scales, but my lips get a little tired sometimes. I still think I have a lot to catch up on. I am going to a University next year, and would love to be in the band. There in an audition the end of April. I am nervous. Someone once told me that you have to be able to play the piccolo if you play the flute in college. Is that true? How long will it take me to learn to play the piccolo? How much would a good piccolo cost? What kind of financing do they have for instruments? Do I need to get a new flue? My flute was brand new has been played less than two months, but I am not sure if it is a good one. It is a Gemeinhardt. It is solid silver and open holed with a gold mouthpiece. Also, where do I find a good flute cleaning kit? I don't really know much about college bands. Can piccolos play in concert band? I am going to the University of MS(Ole Miss) if that helps! Thank you for your advice in advance! I know I might not be the best at auditions, but hopefully I will atleast make it. If I don't, I will just audition next year.
